A rate is a starting value, not a lock. If the government moves it, you change it yourself in Settings → Currency & Tax the same day — you do not need a new version of the software. Individual products can carry their own rate, or be marked exempt.
Account customers — the part every shop gets wrong
Most shops in New Zealand keep account customers in a register, and the register is always a week behind the shop. Busnipy POS keeps it against the customer instead: every credit sale posts to their balance as it is billed, part-payments come off it, and the list is correct at closing time without anybody adding a column of figures.
The recovery screen sorts by how long money has been owed rather than by how much, because the oldest debt is the one that turns into a loss. Reminders go out over SMS and email with the balance already in the message, and every one of them is recorded against the customer — so the next person to ask knows what was already asked.
